Day-1 Tirana – Kruje – Shkodra
You arrive in Albania from Mother Theresa airport in Rinas, close to the capital, Tirana. From there, you drive to the historical town of Kruja. Visit the museum of Gjergj Kastriot Scanderbeg, our national hero, who fought heroically against the ottoman invasion. Proceed to visit the Ethnographic museum, where are exposed folk dresses, objects and other things.You live Kruja by visiting the bazaar, where you will have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs, wool carpets, wooden-made objects etc. After sightseing all the spots of Kruja, you will have a delightful traditional lunch at a restaurant nearby the castle, to get a better Albanian taste. The rest of the afternoon, until before departure, will be at your leisure to explore other parts of Kruja.
After your experience with an old city, try another pretty old city, Shkodra. You will depart north heading to Shkodra, the most important city of northern Albania. The Rozafa Castle, with all it’s glory, history and legends, is the first landmark you should visit atop of the hill overlooking the city and the whole region. A short walk to the pedestrian street, the street of all Shkodra’s culture and famous buildings.
If all the day was not enough, you will also get to spend the night in Shkodra as you will be for dinner and overnight there.
Day-2 Shkodra – Durres – Gjakovo
Meeting with your guide at the hotel lobby, you depart firstly to the ancient city of Durres, founded in 627 B.C. Today is one of the biggest towns and most important seaport in Albania. Visit the fortress of the city, the amphitheatre, and the archaeological museum. For lunch you can try the best of Albanian seafood.
But the Albanian experince is not contained inside the international borders, and you will see that in Kosovo too, with the Gjakovo as the first destination. In Gjakovo you will once again get back to the centuries of the Ottoman Empire in the old quarter, the Carshia, where you will also visit the King Mosque, the old bazaar, etc. Dinner and overnight are in Gjakovo, so you will have quite some free time during the afternoon to explore the city.
Day-3 Gjakovo – Rugove – Peja
The day today is almost full of breathtaking sights. The first spot you will visit is the marvellous Drini Waterfall, which is actually the begining of one of the main branches of the river. Sorrounded with nothing but forests of the mountains, the waterfall is a true hidden jewel of Kosova nature. Following, is the Gorge of Rugova, a special rock formation coming out of a few million years of river erosion streching for about 25 kilometers. The gorge is not only a place of awe, but also a pretty good spot for alpinists.
After the natural wonders of this side of Kosovo, you will go to Peja, where you will be for lunch.
After the lunch with traditional food from Kosovo, you will take a stroll around Peja, on the main boulevard and in the old quarter of Peja. After your guided visit of Peja, you will have the afternoon free in the city and also you are for dinner and overnight in Peja.
Day-4 Peja – Decan – Prishtina
This day starts a bit differently from the previous days. The frist destination is the Decan Monastery, where is located one of the most special Serbian Orthodox monasteries. Build in the 14th century with the request of the Serbian Sing Stephan Uros III, buried in the monastery, you will truly feel the spiritual atmosphere differently.
After this religious dose, you will depart towards the European modernity of Prishtina, the capital of Kosovo, but before starting your visit, you will enjoy the lunch in Prishtina.
Since entering the city, you will notice its special grim and style. Your visit includes a walk in the old town, recognized for it’s Ottoman cobled stone street and with it’s Ottoman houses, the Scanderbeg Square where also the statue of the Albanian people is located, the governmental and international buildings around the square, the old clocktower, the King Mosqu, and more. Also, why wouldn’t you take a selfi at the symbol of Kosovo independency, the New Born monument? All these are not enough to give you the full spirit of Prishtina, and so you also have some free time in the afternoon for more experiences.
After all these, you will stay in Prishtina for dinner and overnight.
Day-5 Prishtina – Prizren – Fierza – Durres
After waking up from Prishtina, you will depart south heading to Prizren, the city of culture in Kosovo. Prizren is another city that will remain in your heart. The river Lumbardha divides the city in two parts that both have churches, both have mosques but one side has the Castle of Prizren, atop the hill, and the other one has the complex of the League of Prizren, an important event of the Albanian Renescance in late 19th century. Before lunch you will have some free time to walk around Prizren and afterwards, you will head to the border with Albania.
You will be heading to Durres but with a short sighseing stop in Fierza lake, the largest artificial lake of Albania, created in the ’70s by the communist regime with the controlled flood of River Drin. If you are lucky, you can see some rooftops of the old city of Kukes that used to be in that very area.
Depending on the arrival time in Durres you will also have some free time in the city and you will be in Durres for dinner and overnight.
Day-6 Durres – Apolonia – Berat
After breakfast, you depart to Apolonia, a Greek colony of more than 2000 years ago where now stand the ruins of the old city, once in such importance and development, that Ceazar studied there. But you will not stay all the time that behind in history, as you will transfer for Berat. In Berat, you will start your exploration firstly with gastronomy, a rich lunch with the top dishes of Albanian cuisine.
The exploration of this 2400 year old town starts of course, with the citadel, located on a hilltop overlooking the whole area. Besides quite a few landmarks inside the castle, you will go for a visit to Onufri museum, well known for it’s special style in paintings, and you will also step into a few of the many churches that Berat has.
Afterwards you have the afternoon free to explore for yourself what remains of Berat; the old quarters, the churches and monasteries, the river passing through the city, meeting the locals, etc.
For dinner and ovrnight you will be in Berat.
Day-7 Berat – Tirana
Waking up after a magic night in Berat, you will drive north to Tirana, back to the capital. You will start the visit greeting Scanderbeg, our National Hero, at the Scanderbeg Square, where our his statue stands strong like he stood agains the Ottoman invaders, sorrounded by the historical buildings of the Ministries, the Opera, the Tirana International Hotel, the National Historic Museum, Bank of Albania and Et’hem Beg Mosque. Each of these buildings are symbolic representatives of the era of their construction. Your stroll continues south along Martyrs of the National Boulevard, passing other important landmarks and ending up to Mother Theresa Square at the Polytechnic University. The lunch will be served in the Block area, the once forbidden residential area in communism. Afterward you will have have some free time in Tirana.
Overnight in Tirana.
Day-8 Tirana – Onward
This is the day of conclusion of your Albanian adventure.Depending on the flight time, you will have some free time and then departure to the airport.
