The Albanian adventure of hiking starts with the landing in Mother Theresa Airport and the transfer to the capital city of Albania, to Tirana. Depending on the time of arrival, you can have a walking tour around the main sights of Tirana, such as the Scanderbeg Square, the Et’hem Beg Mosque, the landmarks along the Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard, etc. The first dinner and overnight will be in Tirana.
Day-2 Tirana – Divjaka Today you depart to Divjaka, to the largest lagoon of the Balkans. Upon your arrival there you will take a calm quiet stroll along the shore of the lagoon, with the sea at one side and the forest on the other side. The wildlife can be both heard and seen and that is one of the reasons that makes this special ecosystem even more amazing. Many endemic fishs and birds have their homes in this lagoon. Lunch will be at a restaurant by the sea and afterwards you will have the afternoon free to take some more time along the lagoon and also for the beach and for swimming in this part of the Adriatic Sea. Dinner and overnight will be in Divjaka.
Day-3 Divjaka – Vlora – Llogara For today we will change scenery and will depart for Apolonia, one of the largest archaeological sites in Albania. During the peak of it’s development, this greek colony used to be one of the most important and influencial cities in this side of the Adriatic. It was such an important city that Ceasar himself used to study here. The tour here includes walks around the whole city of Apolonia and also visiting the monastery and the museum. For lunch you will drive south to Vlora, where besides the sea food, you will also enjoy the beaitufil view of th Bay of Vlora. To sum the day, you will drive up to Llogara, where the afternoon will be concluded with a walk around the tracks in the forest of the National Park of Llogara. There you will also be for dinner and overnight.
Day-4 Llogara – Qeparo – Jale – Himara From Llogara, you will descend the mountain range, and head up for Qeparo, and from the center of the village you will start hiking to the old part of this small sea village where the old houses of an old architecture are still standing. From Qeparo, you will transfer to Jale, another pearl of the Albanian Riviera. The beach is quite tempting and there you will have lunch, but afterwards you will start hiking over the cliffs of the Jala area, getting a really stunning view of the beach and of that small bay. Returning to the bus, you will transfer to Himara where you will have the afternoon free to enjoy yourself the famous peable beach of Himara. There you will be for dinner and overnight.
Day-5 Himara – Delvina – Gjirokastra From Himara, you depart south with a pleasant stop at Ali Pasha Tepelena. Afterwards you will travel to Delvina, the plains behing the mountains that block the Ionian currents to enter more inlands. From the Delvina plain you will hike the mountains filled with thick forests, to reach the Monastery of Saint Mary, now a place rarely visited. There you will also have lunch in the embrace of the nature. The rest of the way to Gjirokastra you will do it by bus and in the city you will take a visit in the afternoon. The stone city has a lot to offer to any tourist, from the Ottoman quarters with the same architecture, to the castle, from the cobbled streets to the old bazaar where you will find souveniers for anyone. Dinner and overnight will be in Gjirokastra.
Day-6 Gjirokastra – Sheper – Benje Leaving the stone city in the side of the mountain, you will drive up through the Valley of River Drinos, with quite a few special sceneries that you will see while crossing the river multiply times. A short stop will be at Labova e Kryqit. Continuing, you will reach the hidden village of Sheper, from where you will start the hiking in the clean Albanian nature of the mountains. You will reach the Lengarica Canyon and in one corner of it is located the village of Benja, famous for it’s hot springs, where you will be for dinner and overnight.
Day-7 Benje – Hotova – Polican – Berat From the small village of Benja accross the National Park of Hotova, one of the richiest national parks of Albania with a huge diversity of flora and fauna. The stop will be at Bogova waterfall to have a short rest and to enjoy the view of this waterfall. From there you will transfer to Mount Tomorr and you will hike to Polican, a small village that flourished during the communism. From Polican you will transfer to Berat, the city of one thousand and one windows. Depending on the time of arrival, your afternoon is free and you will be in Berat for dinner and overnight.
Day-8 Berat – Tirana – Onwards Depending on the time of the flight, you will have some time of exploring some more of Berat. Afterwards, you will depart for Tirana and to the airport, from where you will fill your flight home with the precious memories of your Albanian hiking adventures.
